SUMMARY:Bridges to Board Service - Resource Development
DESCRIPTION:The Chamber's Nonprofit Committee\, in partnership with the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley\, Governance Matters an affiliate of the New York Council of Nonprofits (NYCON)\, and the Dyson Foundation will present Bridges to Board Service: Making our community stronger through exceptional nonprofit board service. Sessions will provide board members with a critical orientation on the responsibilities\, knowledge\, and skills needed to be an effective board member.\n\nResource Development for Nonprofit Boards\n\nOne important but sometimes misunderstood area of board responsibility is to ensure that the organization has the financial\, human\, and other resources it needs to carry out its mission and achieve its goals. The specific nature of how this is done varies according to the organization's business model\, culture\, structure\, and organizational capacity. This session will provide an overview of how board members can foster a pro-active approach to financial resource development that includes policy making\, planning\, fundraising\, and strategy development. We will also define and explore the various active roles board members can play as donors\, ambassadors\, advocates\, and askers. \n\nBoard Service 101 is a prerequisite for taking this session unless you are a graduate of the Leadership Dutchess program offered by the Chamber Foundation. \n\nIf you have questions on this course\, the Bridges to Board Service program and/or the BoardnetUSA matching service please email bridgestoboardservice@gmail.com.\n\nChamber Member - $25\n\nNon-Member - $35\n\nSession capacity is 20 participants. A minimum of 10 participants is required to hold each session. If a session does not reach the minimum participation\, registrants will be invited to attend a different upcoming session.
