SUMMARY:DAN BROUTHERS BASEBALL LECTURE BY DR ROY KERR
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, June 8\, at 2 PM at St. Mary's Catholic Church\, Wappingers Falls will celebrate her 19th century son\, Dan Brouthers. The only inductee into the Baseball Hall of Fame at Cooperstown from a New York State village\, Brouthers' life and career will be discussed by Roy Kerr\, author of the recently published\, Big Dan Brouthers -Baseball's First Great Slugger.\nVisitors and residents may be familiar with the monument to Brouthers which stands on Main Street\, but not with the person it honors. Dr. Kerr\, a retired professor of Spanish\, and a member of the Society for American Baseball Research\, will reveal why the man who has been called the Babe Ruth of the 1880's\, ranks among the greatest players in baseball history. \nAlong with his wife\, Mary Ellen\, Big Dan lies at rest in the cemetery of St. Mary's. \nThe Wappingers Historical Society\, proud sponsor of this event\, suggests a $5.00 adult donation at the door. All donations are used to support restoration projects at Mesier Homestead.\nFor more information\, please call: 845-831-7006.
