SUMMARY:Presentation by Bishop Gomez
DESCRIPTION:Presentation by Bishop Gomez of El Salvador \nHere is some background about him and the history of the Lutheran Church in El Savador:\n\nThe Salvadoran Lutheran Church emerged in 1952 as a result of the missionary effort of the North American pastor Robert Gussick\, based in Guatemala and representative of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church from Milwaukee\, Wisconsin. The Lutheran Church played a leading role in supporting and assisting refugees during the Civil War form 1980 to 1992. On August 6th\, 1986\, Rev. Medardo Gómez was consecrated as a Bishop by the Swedish Lutheran Bishop Oke Kastlund. This led to the Lutheran Church in El Salvador becoming a member of the Lutheran World Federation\, independent from the Missouri Synod. Bishop Gomez was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 1992 because of his work during the Civil War. Today the Lutheran Church in El Salvador consists of about 60 congregations around the country.
