This is a self-guided program.
Program is organized by the Health and Wellness Steering Committee of the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce. The Wellness Challenge begins on May 3 and runs through June 11.
This is not a weight-loss challenge, although we hope that individuals that complete the ten weeks will experience some weight-loss and have a renewed focus and commitment to his or her overall well-being.
This is a group program, with each Team Captain working with 10 individuals. Team Captains may recruit his or her team or be assigned participants based on enrollment. We have found that individuals that sign up in groups have a better experience and stay with the program longer and are more successful, so we encourage friends, families and co-workers to sign up together to support one another.
Each week all participants will receive information via email on a specific topic related to wellness. Weekly themes will include:
¬ Nutrition, meal planning and grocery shopping
¬ Healthful recipes and snacks to avoid hunger
¬ Adding activity and exercise to your daily routine
¬ Varying your exercise routine to include cardio, strength and flexibility training
¬ Weight loss and body mass index
¬ Rest and recovery
¬ Vitamin and other supplements
¬ Forming and maintaining positive habits
¬ Proper hydration, and
¬ Dining out strategies.
Participants will be invited to several program activities during the ten weeks. Team captains are encouraged to meet to exercise together and to share progress within his or her team. Participants can pick up program materials in person, or materials can be emailed.
♣ The goal is to have ten teams of ten individuals. Each individual will pay $25 to enter the 10-week program.
♣ Individuals maintain a daily progress log focused on the following key areas:
¬ Nutrition and meal plan
¬ Exercise and activity level
¬ Sleep patterns
¬ Water consumption
¬ Overall energy level
♣ Individuals submit their weekly progress log which reports on the above areas, and:
¬ Weight
¬ Waist measurement
♣ The Team Captain collects the weekly progress logs from each of the 10 individuals.
♣ Each individual that submits all weekly logs will have a portion of the $25 returned to the team for donation to a select Chamber of Commerce non-profit organization at the end of the program. Each team will select the charity of the Team’s choice.
Team Captains are encouraged to participate in The Wellness Challenge. Feedback on the program is requested to improve the experience for all involved. At the end of the 10-week Wellness Challenge, a program report will be issued to summarize the success of each team and the entire group.
